Map of Fort William Henry 1757
(Item #: 017) Fort William Henry was the site of the infamous massacre in August 1757 during the French and Indian War. Native warriors joined forces with the French under promises of plundering the British fort during the attack. Once the British negotiated a peaceful surrender with the French, the natives realized they were not going to receive what they were promised. The natives then broke the terms of the surrender and attacked the departing British. Estimates of the number murdered range drastically between 100 and 1500 people. This reproduction of A Map of Fort William Henry features a complete description of the fort's layout and the approach and attack of the French troops.
