Monroe Doctrine 1823
(Item #: 203)

The Monroe Doctrine was Monroe's statement to Congress on December 2, 1823 concerning an independent foreign policy for the United States. Monroe wanted to make it clear to Europe that America was no longer open to colonization and that any attempt to bring political influence into the States would be considered "dangerous to our peace and safety." This reproduction is in Monroe's original handwriting, features his signature and provides explanatory notes.
