Gleason's Pictorial
(Item #: 935)

Gleason's Pictorial was one of America's first successful illustrated weekly newspapers. Gleason's Pictorial was owned by Frederick Gleason in Boston until 1855. It captured the mood of a changing America; the 1850s saw a great transition away from "traditional" America due to the Industrial Revolution, the slavery crisis, and the vast number of immigrants arriving on a daily basis. This reproduction of an issue of Gleason's Pictorial is dated Saturday, May 29, 1852 (No. 22, Vol. II).
