Old Maps of California 1656 and 1731

In a 1656 map of California, the great state is shown as an island. This misinformation was first provided by several Spanish navigators and was popular with English map makers for many years. A Jesuit priest and European geographer finally repaired the misleading maps by 1731, proving California was indeed not an island. This document features both versions of the California map as well explanatory text.
